Day Care pt 4

Watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the fact that i expected the original movie showed my age)
Movie: He's an idiot.
Kid: UMUMUMA! They said the 'E' word!

We got to go out for bowling as an excursion. what other jobs would u get paid to go bowling? that was when i discovered that kids have mixed feelings about me.

Girls: Francessssss, we wanted to be in ur team!!
Me: awwwwww.
2 minutes later
Girls: Francessssss, we drew pictures of u
Me: awwwww... wait... why do i have dumbo ears and a black eye?

I think it's safe to say that i can't use my nickname 'Frank' in day care.
Girl 1 - u know what would be really funny?
Girl 2 - what?
Girl 1 - if i called you Hamish!
Girl 2 - ...
Girl 1 - CUZ YOU'RE NOT A BOY! *points finger and laughs*
Girl 2 - ...
Me - yeah that would be really weird.. *shifty eyes*

these days kids are just waaaaaaay too consumed by electronic devices and video games. waaaaaayy too much.

Boy: let me tell ya somethin. Tv is my life. DS is my life.
Me: aw yeah
Boy: and Wii is my life. Not wee wee, but nintendo wii.
Me: no i got that.
Boy: yeah, i cant live without it. i dunno what i would do.
Me: how old are u again?
Boy: seven
Me: *ahh the meaning of life at seven*

ok so i told myself i would blog about amyc but i've been too lazy and too late, so i figured i'll just do a top-up on everyone else's.

memorable moments

Atan replacing Mortein by brutally killing cockroaches during the peaceful strolls at night

Waking up to KC talking in her sleep. i don't think i've ever heard someone speak so clearly in their sleep before. this was after the conference and talent night must have taken a toll on her.

KC: ... guys, I'll be narrator.

Kevin Fang waking up to find Atan sleeping in a crunch position
Atan: *What is the most straining position i can sleep in to have maximum physical exertion?*

Sime T was bending over really really low. Tim noticed that his posterior was being revealed as a result. I just happened to be holding a bottle of water in my hand. Now, I must explain that my intention was to follow orders. So Tim nudged me and pointed to Sime's uncovered rear end. At this point, I immediately assumed that Tim was telling me to pour the water bottle into Sime's butt clevage, and so, i did. The following events included me laughing my head off, Sime trying to chase me with his wet butt and trying to dry himself by pointing his rear end towards the sunlight.

for revenge Sime T sat on me and farted. but in my opinion... victory is still mine.

I think my thumb muscles have become alot more buff after giving comfort-massages.

dude from ayc: hi frances. my name's Richard. we haven't met but... could u give my angel a massage?

I've been waiting for this day. the day Sime L met his older brother that I met two years ago.

the brissie crew being noob on the trams.
Tram: If you would like to stop at the next station, please request now.
Noobs: ummm... *puts hand up* we request.

ok so you may have heard bout the incident where we went to a fancy restaurant in thongs, tshirts and boardshorts. i dont think i've ever been to a fancier place before. and i dont think ive ever felt so lower class in my life lol if only i wasnt lookin like a hobo in my 5buck thongs. anyways, i had to pee. so i went up to a waitress and asked in a very polite and lady-like manner where the bathroom was. she replied in a very polite and lady-like manner. and as i walked towards the toilet, i tripped over my 5 buck thongs and made a lady-like yelp. yeah... i dont belong in fancy places lol

Day Care part 3

These kids are freakin hilarious.

Cutest little girl: *hugs me by my waist*
Me: Hello!!
Cutest little girl: *starts hanging off waist*
Me: *tries to walk with child as a belt*
Cutest little girl: HUG ME!!
Me: *i'd like to keep my blue card* a hug? why do u need a hug?
Cutest little girl: beeeecauuuuse.. IF YOU DON'T GIVE ME A HUG... I'LL BREAK YOUR ARM!!
Me: *...whaaaaat the. get off me*

Co-ordinator: Hey Frances, can you bake?
Frances: ahhhh with my friends *nervous laugh*
Co-ordinator: Great, do you wanna help the kids bake a birthday cake?
Frances: *uh oh..* Sure!

20mins later, two lumpy cakes

Birthday girls: We want green cakes!
Me: *eeeewww* Sure!

5mins later, two lumpy nuclear waste cakes

There's another girl that works at the care centre who's name is Frances. and get this, she's asian too.
Me: so how did your parents give you our name?
Frances: after Saint Frances
Me: ah yeah..
Frances: how bout you?
Me: they got it from a list of names and they were like "that's weird, i'll take it"

Something I learnt about kids is that they are very competitive. they will do anything if you make it competitive.

*boy lying in the middle of the floor*
Me: Buddy, you okay? you bored?
Boy: *nods*
Me: Let's play Connect-a-four (i owned this game in primary)
Boy: Connect-a-four is llaaaamee, no-body plays it
Me: *i'm so old* That's cuz you've never played with me before. I am the QUEEN OF CONNECT-A-FOUR!
Boy: No WAYYY!!! I'll beat you!!
*after a few games of me winning*
Other kids: I wanna verse him! *points to boy*
Boy: Nooo, you have the verse her, she's the QUEEN OF CONNECT-A-FOUR!
*uproar of connect-a-four begins*

i think the kids had one too many candy canes today. they all made cakes today. and got to eat them. *shudder*
Witnessing the special event of children running from the playground to the table where the cakes are placed is one of nature's most extraordinary sights; this is called the 'Stampede'. Luckily i was in safe shelter in the kitchen, i was only able to hear the screams and thundering sound of 30 pairs of shoes drumming the concrete. Fortunately there were no casualties... yet.

Day Care part 2

second week of Day Care and i'm still trying to get used to how things are run (but i think the whole center is trying to work itself out too)

so i never know when kids are trying to take advantage of my noobiness

*kid comes up to me*
Kid: umm.... can u please... play this video? we're allowed to watch videos now.
*looks at Pocahontas video held pretty much under the table like its cocaine or sumfin*
Me: ahh... how bout you ask the coordinator
Kid: *gives up then and there*

kids can be smart arses sometimes, but i can be a bigger arse. (that doesn't sound right)

*two boys playing with an awesome paper windmill*
Boy 1: hey! give that back, i made it!
Boy 2: as if you made this
Boy 1: Did too!
Me: what are you guys fighting about?
Boy 1: I made this!
Me: yeeeww did not.
Boy 1: DID TOO!!
Me: no way... and do u know why i think u couldn't have made it? BECUZ IIII MADE IT
*takes back awesome windmill*

I rule at come backs. i think being around kids only develops my skill

*playing ping pong with kids*
Me: man theres no way i could have reached that
Boy: thats cuz ur too short
*boy's height measures to my waist
Me: but im taller than you, so u couldnt have reached it... even more.

and again, they still make my feel like a hundred years old

*little girl colouring Bratz doll picture*
Me: Do you like Bratz dolls?
Girl: YESS! did u play with Bratz dolls?
Me: nah i never had Bratz dolls, i only had Normal Barbie
Girl: yeah. that's cuz ur childhood was was was in the olden days.
Me: *cries in corner*

My first day in child care.

woooooo from sunday school to day care is quite the jump. the biggest difference is the size of it, ovals and courtyards in comparison to small classrooms at church. in sunday service, mums and dads are like 20meters away. in day care, parents leave u with their kids, so u better make sure theyre not getting up to anything stupid...

10 minutes into the shift

Me: HEY!! get out of the tree guys!
HEY!!! keep ur hands to urself! no fighting!
HEY!!! get out of the out-of-bounds area!

another thing i learned is that kids are very different. some dont like being touched, and others...

*little girl nearly runs me over with a hug*
Me: HELLO!
*kid still hanging off my hips*
Me: so.. how bout we start with ur name?

i also learned that kids know more than we think they know.

*boy shows me a clear cup with beetles inside*
Boy: look!! theyre making babies!!
Me: *looks into cup and sees beetles mating* Maybe their just fighting?
Boy: No. theyre having SEEEEX
Me: .... well i guess its hard to tell sometimes.

and what the hec has happened to Handball these days, the rules used to be so simple.

Girl: Service
Boy: *hits ball somewhere else*
Girl: i said service!
Boy: it was too late!
Girl: ACE OVER-RULE!!
Boy: PINK PANTHER!!!
Me: whats pink panther??
Boy: Pink panther wins everything.
Me: ... im so old.

Yeah when u step into the a day care center, suddenly ur 5 feet taller and 50 years older.

Me: so how old are u?
Little girl: i keep that information confidential.
Me: *what the hec* oh ok. do u know how old i am?
Little girl: mmmm 100?
Me: *tear* pretty much.

everyone who works there are really nice and the kids are pretty awesome. day two tomorrow :)

I'm starting to get into this Outreach thing. I heard about Operation Christmas Child from emily, and now i'm loving the idea!

For over 35 years, Samaritan’s Purse as an international relief agency, has done it's utmost to follow Christ's command by going to the aid of the world's poor, sick, and suffering. They reach out to hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Here in Australia and New Zealand, Samaritan’s Purse has been independently run since 1995. We form part of the larger international network, but focus on our immediate Southeast Asian and Pacific neighbours, including Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the Solomon Islands as well as to Indigenous Australians in the Kimberleys and Northern Territory.

What is Operation Christmas Child?

this kid is hilaaaaaarious.

Every Heart

ok, so i finally found an asian song that i kinda half like :P but once i read the lyrics to the english version... well... i kinda quarter like it now.

Tell me babe, how many do I shed my tears? so she's singing this song to her boyfriend
Every Heart, Every Heart is not a gentle yet bf: i totally agree, every heart really IS not a gentle yet

Shall I do? I can never say my loneliness bf: it's okay, just sound it out. My. Lone. Li. Ness. wait. you just said it.
Every Heart doesn't know so what to say oh what to do

Was afraid of darkness cause I felt that I was left alone bf: so what am i doing here?
So I prayed for help to distant million stars

Round and round the planets revolve round the sun
And we always seek after love and peace forever more
Growing growing woe baby we can work it out bf: i didnt realise we had a problem
Look up at the sky every heart is shining all today solution to problem?
Show me now, What kind of smile do I come across bf: um ur smile is perfectly fine
Every heart every heart can take a step towards the dreams bf: how is this relevant to smiles

All of us what to take a lasting happiness bf: whhhhat?
Whenever you feel sad, I wanna hold you
And give you a sound sleep bf: can i get a watch instead?

Someday every hearts gonna free and easy
We have peace of mind
Someday all the people find the way to love

Goes and goes the time goes on we are not alone
We live on together and we will find some precious things precious, what's the word... ah yeah! Things
Sometime we will smile sometime we will cry somehow gunna cry, dunno how, but somehow
Don't forget believing yourself - Tomorrow's never die

There is the warm heart places on my mind
In my earlist days there and it's so sweet
There are many stars they have talk with me so kind bf: the stars aren't talking to you, its all in ur head
They say yes always time's friend of mine-so shine bf: i better call the ambulence

Hey, at least she can say the words. Sheng Ming Jai Yu Niii Ju!

Living at Ness'

So I survived 3 days of semi-independence at Ness' house (semi meaning Viv was there). actually... we weren't that independent, mum invited herself over to drop off food and Ness' uncle did the same (i think theyre tryin to send a message here). but regardless, we managed to stay alive.

things got a bit shaky when we had to go shopping for groceries though. it consisted of me and ness standing alone in the fruit aisle, crying cuz we had no clue what to do.

Ness: Is this ripe?
Frank: Dunno.
Ness: *Sobs*
Frank: Hurry up and pick ur fruit.

Candy Section

Ness: Should we get KitKat or Cadbury
Frank: I don't eat alot of chocolate
Ness: *cries*
Frank: Hurry up and pick ur chocolate.

Chip Aisle

Frank: I know exactly what im getting.... TOOOOBS
*Looks for Toobs*
Frank: YAY! on special!
Ness: *cries in aisle*
Frank: ... lets get out of here.

Ness: I can't remember what i had to get...
Frank: Look at ur list.

*Pulls out list*
- Fruit
- Chocolate
- Dog food

Frank: ... u can't remember three things?

And then we had to go look for a movie at Blockbuster cuz i was dying from study-boredom-syndrome (who am i kidding, it was cheap tuesday)

New Release section

Ness: You pick the movie this time, i always pick.
Frank: Ok.
Ness: *picks up a dvd*... can we watch this one?

Comedy Section

Ness: WHY DON'T THEY HAVE FUNNY MOVIES ANYMORE??
Frank: dunno.
Ness: *cries in comedy section*
Frank: Hurry up and pick ur movie.

Counter

Ness: Excuse me, i'm looking for this dance movie... its about this guy... and he dances... and he joins a group.. and they dance together... and then they win a competition.
Blockbuster dude: umm... yeah.. u just described every dance movie in existance
Frank: is there like... a Dance Section?
Blockbuster dude: umm.. no... there's like a total of three dance movies.

Watching 'Stomp the yard'

Ness: Man! this is so lame!
Frank: I KNOW!!
Ness: ... i love it.

So after all that fun at the Tay residence, i came back to the Dong residence to be greeted by a familiar friend...

ever since my dad made salty duck and got a compliment from Emily's grandma, he's been making it over and over ever since... and this is what i wake up to see in the kitchen while fixing some cereal..

even worse when i get up in the middle of the nite for a drink of water, stumble in the darkness and see this little naked alien in the kitchen

anyways back to study *sobs*

I'm not cryin

I couldnt resist.. i just love this song so much

So, you're leaving, aren't you'
I knew it when you said just then when you told me you were leaving
That's when I definitely knew
But if you're trying to break my heart
Your plan is flawed from the start
You can't break my heart, it's liquid
It melted when I met you
And as you turn around to leave
Don't' turn back to me
Don't turn around and see if I'm crying
I'm not crying

I'm not crying
It's just been raining
on my face
And if you think you see some tear tracks down my cheeks
Please. Pleasee, don't tell my mates
I'm not crying
No, I'm not crying
And if I am crying
It's not because of you
It's because I'm thinking about a friend of mine who you don't know who is dying
That's right, dying
These aren't tears of sadness because you're leaving me
I've just been cutting onions
I'm making a lasagna
For one
Oh, I'm not crying
No
There's just a little bit of dust in my eye
That's from the path that you made when you said your goodbye
I'm not weeping because you won't be here to hold my hand
For your information there's an inflammation in my tear gland
I'm not upset because you left me this way
My eyes are just a little sweaty today
They've been looking around
They're like searching for you
They've been looking for you
Even though I told them not to
These aren't tears of sadness
They're tears of joy
I'm just laughing
Ha ha ha-ha ha
I'm sitting at this table called love
Staring down at the irony of life
How come we've reached this fork in the road
And yet it cuts like a knife'
I'm not crying
I'm not crying
I'm not cry-y-y-y-
-y-y-y-y-ing

My Steering Wheel Cover

Ok so im finally starting to drive. and ive been wanting to get a new wheel cover cuz the old was could potentially cause my hands to bleed *everyone imagines wheel cover made from rusty nails... sold in springwood* so my daddy dearest bought a new one! totally unaware, i got into the car, started the engine, put my hands on the wheel and WOAHHH.. the thing is chuckier than a pro wrestlers biceps. its like made out of foam sausages or sumfin... and to top it off.. it has "HOT STUFF" written on the top.

but it wasnt until weeeeks later that i realised the full purpose of this amazing wheel cover.

Sheer embarrassment.

but i love my daddy lol

Singing Tips

Step One: Lift one hand to one's ear and lightly cover one's ear to block the sound of one's ear.

Step Two: Using one's blocked ear, one must listen and pitch one's voice to the music.

Step Three: With the free hand, hold one's microphone at a comfortable distance, adjust the distance to suit the level of one's screaming.

Step Four: Close one's eyes, scrunch one's eyes when singing high notes.

Step Five: Make seemingly awkward facial expressions to ephasise the lyrics of the song.

The Chop

so i did it. i got me a haircut. and this time u can tell.

i went to the hairdressers.. sat down... and the hair dresser asked me if i spoke chinese. i said im really bad at it. so she continues to speak to me in chinese. *yeah.. i don't mind if u can't understand me*

so she asked me what i wanted and so i told her.

Me: ummm i wanna get my hair cut to just above my shoulders.
Hairdresser: (in chinese) yeah... no u don't. that's too short for you... you want something longer.
Me: umm but... i've always had long hair... like my hair is always the same... and my friends told me i should get it cut short.. and so... thats why im here *nervous laugh*
Hairdresser: but you'll have to maintain it... ur hair wont flick and curl.. short hair is hard to maintain.
Me: yeah that's fine.
Hairdresser: ok so you want it longer.
Me: *whhhhhhhhaaaaattttt*

why do hairdressers always insist on telling how i do and dont want my hair. one time a hairdresser told me not to get a side part cuz my hair line wont let it happen. LIES ive had a side part for years now.

u guys know im not good at standing my ground with these ppl... but i really had to make a slow creep to get my foot in the door.

i... have.. long hair.
i have always had long hair..
i would like to have short hair...
to get short hair i need to have it cut
please, please cut my hair..

so she started to work on my hair. after two minutes..
Me: ahh could i get it cut a bit shorter?
Hairdresser: *picks up peice of hair to show me she cut a whopping 2cms off*
Me: yeah.... i thought thats more like a trim...sorry i was umm hopin to get a haircut?
Another hairdresser: that is a haircut... haircut is at least 2cms

suddenly i'm in a class for HaircutDefinitions101

but in the end... i got my hair cut and it is short. and guess what.. it flicks and curls by itself. hairdresser's don't even know my hair :P

btw im not gunna send the photo to the hairdressers to prove them wrong, i mean... i wouldnt stoop THAT low... *seals envelope*

Boy bands are kool..

it was this song that convinced me that the movie Boytown would be good. but oh no. goodness no.

so i'm at Max's house after the NYE party at chucky's house. we decided to rent out some movies. i chose Disturbia. Max chose Boytown. and we decided to watch a comedy first. about 10mins into the film i started to realise the non-funniness of the film. but i didnt wanna say anything cuz i thought i would ruin the movie for max. turns out she was thinkin the same thing. bout 45mins into the movie it was just too obvious how crap the movie was. i turned to max. she had the exact same expression on her face as i did. the sheer disbelief of how horrible the movie was.

Max: Who are the film makers tryin to appeal to??
Me: Old aussie men? with old aussie men humour?
Max: Yeah... *picks up Boytown dvd cover* do u think old aussie men pick this up and feel compelled to rent it?
Me: ... old aussie women? with old aussie men humour?

it was bout the halfway mark that i really didnt wanna watch the movie anymore.

Me: Max... can we please watch Disturbia?
Max: it doesnt matter how crap this movie is... i cant pay for a movie and NOT finish it.

so we stuck it through together.. we didnt handle it to well... for bout 20 mins of the film consisted of me and max squirming and rolling around in pain, anguish and heartbreaking regret. and just as the movie was nearly finished...

max: omgsh!! i wish they would just die!!

and then.. they did. thats the creative ending of the movie... they all die in a plane crash. worst ending ever and yet... the one we all wanted.

Max: let's write a note for the next customer... "dear rentee of the movie Boytown, you have just spent $4 on the worst movie in the history of cinema films"

i couldn't stop laughing when i saw this video... i mean... not only does it resemble the Boytown video... but watch out for the part where there's a wave comin at them

2:57 - *sings passionately* Huh?? what's that??? AHHH duck everyone!!! .... *gets back up* *continues singing passionately*

Middle guy: NO! I can take it! i'm a big backstreet boy!

Everyone: wait... so suddenly were in the middle of the ocean? and either we have really really long legs or the ocean only goes up to our shins...

these guys should have stopped while they could. theyre the reality of Boytown.

Wii time is quality time

So i should prolly post bout this stuff before i forget (as in i already have and needed max to remind me what happened)

so a bunch of us went to mickee's house to get into the new craze Wii. we also played with a wide range of other games such as Mah jong and scrabble.

favourites:

Max being so caught up in the Wii world that she tried to pick up the phone by pointing her mobile at it.

Andy: Potatooo..

Simon: Give me my medal back!! I WANT MY MEDAL BACK!! *sprays screen with bullets*

Pen: *drinking Wii*
Everyone: DONTDRINKTOOFAST!
Pen: *splat*

*Wii jumping rope*
Sime: *gets up to jump*
Andy: DON'T JUMP!
Everyone: *thinks* what? why not?
Sime: *hits head on light*
Everyone: ohh thats why.

Kent cheating at a game of marbles with Max.

KC winning at scrabble with "NETS"

Me winning scrabble with "SIX"

Zef losing with "STOPSADUNG"

then the day after i went post-christmas shopping with Max. ahh thank God for sales. and now becuz of that the Crazy-asian-photo-taking-asian has returned. so at first i went to Harvey Norman to scout the place. there i met Terry, the salesman, who made it seem like he could get me a deal if i just asked. i wanted to take up on that offer. so i came back with maxie poo.

ahh yes. maxie poo. the gifted bargainer who has mastered the art in such a short time. she is the shopping buddy every girl should have.

Me: um... Hi terry.. umm.. soo... i went around and... turns out Kmart has 20% off all digital cameras... that makes their canon ixuz70 cheaper than Harvey Norman... so.. umm.. can u help me out please?

Terry: Yeah sure. *walks away to talk to his boss*

Max: umm does that mean he'll match it or beat it?

Me: i dunno...

Max: *sigh*

Terry: *comes back* ok we can't beat the price cuz its lower than our selling price.

Max: Listen. if you can't beat the price then u gotta give us a deal with the memory card.

1gb normal card = 29.95
1 gb super card = 49.95
2gb normal card = 49.95

Terry: ok how bout i give u a faster card for the price of a normal card.

Me: as in... you can take faster still photos?

Terry: yeah

Max: what the hec do u need that for? if ur gunna take fast photos, wouldnt u just film it? ok. give us the 2G memory card for 25.

Terry: *makes strangling motion* i'll go ask.

Me: Poor guy.

Max: *thinks* Frances-easily ripped off.

Terry: ok... i can give u the camera for $282 and the memory card for $25.

Max: what can u do with the warranty?

Me: i dunno how u do that..

Max is at a higher level of asianness than me. I just want the bargains. Max has the true shamelessness of an asian to go out and get them. well done max. nice doing business with u. or rather.. sitting on the sidelines and twiddling my thumbs while u screw Harvey Norman's sales.

Terry: *types my phone number in the computer* Frances is it?

Me: Yeah thats me.

Terry: it says here u've screwed us over before.

Max: LOL! they have a record of you.

btw now that ive got a new camera... expect to see alot more vids on youtube :P

The second part

I think whoever went to AYC can all agree that the speaker was darn good. His speeches were challenging but at the same time not condemning. He didn’t speak from a self-righteous point of view but at the same time he knew what he was talking bout. I could talk bout being “not ashamed of the gospel” and how to apply that to our lives outside church like at uni or in the workplace… but what really hit home for me was the “sacred cow” thing.

It’s pretty common for Christians to be asked “do you have an idol that hinders your relationship with God?” and for them to think “idols??? Woahh now way am I that bad… no sir… don’t have any golden cows hiding in my closet”. Thing is… an idol can be anything that you put before God… and the worst thing is that sometimes you don’t even realise it exists. It’s until you take a good look into your heart and uncover those dark corners that you have always turned a blind eye to. And everyone has their own personal thing.

What’s my thing? I guess there’s a lot of different things, but I think the one that popped up was chasing the praise of people, especially in church. It’s the difference between doing something for God and for myself while pretending it’s for God. It’s the thoughts in my head and how it’s focussing on what people think of me. It’s the personal desire in my heart to seem like the best person I can be rather than actually being the best person I can be.

But thank God for his unfailing love and amazing power to forgive. I know this idol won’t go away tomorrow but hopefully one day, with prayer and God’s help, I’ll be able to put this aside and serve God with an earnest heart.

Anyways just something to think bout. And since this has been quite a serious post I just wanted to put some vids up while im still in AYC fever :P

No Shame Know Gain

i'm baaaack... and i have a frequent-blogger-reputation to live up to so here it goes.

so girl power (plus atan) went to the AYC in sydney. i'm not too sure how im gunna sum up everything that has happened in the week... but i'll pick out the memorable moments.

for months now girl power has been teasing me bout booking a day before i was supposed to. but when i met up with the crew in sunday service.. the tables turned.

Viv: So tireeeeed lahh
Max: Yeahhh woke up at 3am to get here...
Em: *nodding in sleep*
Me: *shoulder laugh* eh eh eh eh

i stayed with Kevin and Fifi from Sherwood church the nite before camp. good times good times.

Kevin: oh man... took me like 20mins to figure out how to use the shower taps.. hot is cold and cold is hot. i standing there waiting for the water to heat up.. but it just got more and more.

then after camp i stayed with girl power in the exact same room at 'Legend has it'.

Viv: *finishes having a shower*
Em: *starts to go into the bathroom*
Me: oh btw.. hot is cold and cold is hot.
Viv: ...gee thanx. say that for ems but not for me. at least em would have figured it out faster.

Camp was sooo much fun!!! despite some unfortunate events...

I normally hate the sports part of camp… luckily this year I missed out… I just had to pay a price.

What I remember..

* falling to the ground along with Jason in slow motion
* having an entire hospital staff patch me up (or students rather… comes with being in an asian church)
* having half my face plastered with huge bandages
* having everyone come up to me saying “aww you ok?” while patting my injured shoulder
* wearing a paper sign saying “please do not pat (but thanx anyway)”
* getting royal treatment from everyone (e.g. getting my cereal poured for me lol)
* Emily constantly telling me off when I touch any of my bandages :P
* not being able to laugh or smile becuz my lip was swollen (Robin thought I’m not an expressive person)
* developing an even manlier/uglier laugh as a result

then after camp we hung out with some AYC ppl at Robin’s parents house for dinner. Some of us took a walk to get some ice-cream

Caleb: *thinks* I don’t want this ice-cream cone anymore… hey.. I have a good idea… how about I swing this ice-cream back and forth till it falls off.
Me: *thinks* do da do this ice-cream is good. Wait… what is that white ball thing flying towards me? *squeals*

Splat. The ice-cream went onto my jeans, shirt and bag and Caleb continued the Melbourne conspiracy against me lol I’m just kidding. Caleb and Jason are awesome.

Some other funny moments…

* singing into Kevin’s foam cup phone, thinking it was Kevin on the other end when it was actually Caleb who had no clue what I was doing
* me and max singing and dancing (wait… that always happens…)
* watching Kevin and Kevin imitate me and max
* me being held up by viv and em all the way to the train station in the rain cuz my thongs didn’t have any grip
* playing the marshmallow game with mandarins and watching the same ppl make the same mistakes over and over
* Green green green green green green green green REEEDD YEEELLLLLOOOOOWWWWWWW

Robin introducing girl power…
Robin: Hey Wilson I want u to meet ‘girl power’. They are all musically talented!
Me: *thinks* cept me.
Robin: Max and Viv both play and teach piano! Emily plays bass guitar and sings!
Me: *thinks* whats he gunna say..
Robin: and frances… stacked it.

I will forever be known as the girl that stacked it at camp

Going to Yum Cha (the place where Chris thought us Brissy ppl have never been to before)

*everyone sits down*
Kevin: *pulls out paper bag with a croissant inside*
Everyone: *stares* what is that….
Kevin: croissant-bao

Viv: Umm guys.. could we please use the chopsticks in the middle for picking up food instead of using our own? Thank you.
*ten minutes later*
Caleb: *reaches for food with own chopsticks*
Jeremy: Dude watch out! Ok go go she’s not looking
*twenty mins later*
Me: *reaches for food with own chopsticks*
Max: *grabs hand*
Me: What? …. Ohhhh *both look in fear at viv*
Lol viv is so cute (but mature and kool at the same time)

Random convo with Max and Viv
Max: Hey isn’t ‘tomato’ in chinese really similar sounding to English? How do u say it viv?
Viv: Fuuuuuuuunnnnnn Keeeeeeeeeee……

Explaining OT to Kevin
Kevin: So if I can’t use my leg what would you do?
Me: Well… say I’d be looking at stuff like… can you sit on the toilet properly while you pee…
*pause*
Me: oh wait..

Emily dictating my every move after being injured
*at a resturant*
Me: man I’m getting full
Em: EAT YOUR FOOD! Eat it!!
Me: but I’m gunna be sick..
Em: Don’t eat it! Don’t eat it!
Me: *grabs glass of water*
Em: Don’t drink it! That’s why ur full! Don’t drink it!!
Me: But it’s stuck in my throat…
Em: Drink it! Drink it!!
Me: *crying while drinking*

Anyway this has become the longest post ever so I’ll have to end it here. Next… what I actually learned from camp.

dinner with the Dongs

btw im tryin to go for the modern look but it ended up looking just like nessy poo's blog *twin stare*

so today my mum was like "we're goin to dinner with ur dad tonite" and im thinkin "this is a rare event... but there is a high probability of humilation that will come with this event as it involves all three of us being in public"

we've been tryin to go to that ISHU-SUMFINSUMFIN Sushi Bar for ages now and tonite was the third time my parents have tried. the past two times we didnt get it becuz my mum would say "we have to get there early or we wont get in" and my dad would say "sif (or na li...)" then we would drive there and not get a seat and would go to the resturant next door which sells poo in soup. third times a charm... this time they made a reservation. makes all the difference.

so when we get out of the car my mum hands me a water bottle

Mum: put this in ur bag
Me: k..

it wasnt later till i realised why.
Mum: is the tea free?
Waiter: No.
Mum: that's all then.

then she tells me to pull out the water bottle from my bag. already i could see the waiters eyes turning as i ever so slowly poured our own personal water into their classy foam cups.

Waiter: *walks up to me* Umm excuse me, we don't allow drinks from outside, could you please put that bottle on the chair away from view

Me: *thinking* i was framed i tells you!!!

my dad doesnt get out much so this resturant was a whole new world to him.

Dad: *looks at menu and says to waiter* ok so...which one is the sushi?

Me: *looking for the waiters reaction* sure enough it was the "max face", the look of unimpressedness

Waiter: ... ah this whole side of the menu is sushi.

Dad: *thinks* i came for Japanese food... not sushi.

waiting for the next Dong outing.

God doesn't waste

so tonite i went to Aunty Helen's and Uncle Alex's sharing. it was prolly one of the most moving sharings i've ever been to. if you guys don't know, Aunty Helen was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and Uncle Alex is her husband. they both did a sharing each about their life before, during and after the news and how God changed their lives forever.

When i saw Uncle Alex get up on stage i noticed something different about him. In all the years ive been at EMP, i don't remember seeing him smile like he did tonite. Uncle Alex had been brought up in a Christian family all his life. he went to sunday skool and he went to church every sunday. he knew all the stories, he knew God and he believed in Jesus. But he never let Jesus into his life. It was at the highest point in his life, when both of his daughters were doing well with their careers, that he was told his wife had been diagnosed with cancer. it cut deep into his heart and he didnt think he could go on living. it was his darkest hour.

one night, while his daughters were in hospital with their mother, he was at home alone. in his total desperation he went down on his knees and cried, praying to God with all his being. He prayed for God's help. He went into the living room and prayed there. As he looked across the table, he saw the Bible. But he didnt know how to use the bible. But he knew that the Word of God was how God would help him through. That night, he was touched by God and he finally surrendered to Him with all his heart. When he went back to the hospital, his daughters noticed there was something different about him, a sense of joy had overcome him. He shared his experience with God with his family and they were thankful that he found God.

Aunty Helen has been a faithful Christian at our church before my time lol She was one of my sunday skool teachers and has been teaching for like more than a decade. She was close to God and was diligent in His ministry. When she went to the doctors for a bad leg, she discovered that she had cancer. She was in disbelief and went out of the clinic in shock. It wasn't until the drive home that it hit her. Death was knocking at her door and she refused to let it in. Tears poured down her face as she asked God "Why me? What have I done to deserve this?" She drove towards Rev Col's house. He opened his house to her and prayed for her. She didn't know how she was going to tell her family. She didnt want to.

It just so happened, by God's will, that her whole family had gathered, some from interstate, the weekend that she recieved the news of her condition. She just wanted to enjoy the day with her family. Later on she told her family that she was diagnosed with cancer. The family went through many trials since then. Aunty Helen went through 12 chemo sessions and struggled through all the side effects as a result of the treatment. She went through a rollercoaster that didnt seem to stop. She wondered why God was letting this happen to her. What good had come from this experience? She was suffering physically while her faith was put to the test. It was when her husband came to her and told her that God has changed his life, that she realised the purpose of her sufferings. Her faith in God only grew stronger and now she is closer to God than she had ever been. She finally found peace and joy in her circumstance and acceptance of whatever may come in her future. She finally understood that it was spiritual healing that she needed. And she is grateful for the love and support our church has shown her through the most difficult time of her life.

Aunty Helen is still in need of our prayers, her journey with cancer is not over yet. so i hope that everyone will at least take something away from Aunty Helen's and Uncle Alex's sharing and learn from it. God doesn't waste bad experiences but its our attitude towards challenges in life that make it into what it is rather than what it could be. No tragedy should ever be in vain in God's family.
